Ken,
Adobe (my old version) won't even open it, because it reports a "bad encrypt dictionary".
PDFLite WILL open it, but honors the print denial, and will not print it.
Google Chrome will open it, but refuses to print.

So, which reader are you using?

Download/save-as was no problem - but I didn't change the name of the file. Acrobat Reader 11 on Win 7 won't print it. maybe if the saved filename is changed the permissions can be too? I don't know.

"I am using fire fox on windows ten work"

Firefox doesn't contain an "internal" PDF reader, it relies upon plugins. So the question is still "which reader are you using".

Firefox usually tells you which one is in use -- I use firefox, too. And mine is set to default to PDFLite.

Having looked at the downloaded and saved pdf it is indeed password protected and cannot be printed. However, with firefox and the adobe acrobat plug-in,you can print it from firefox.

The problem I have is my work desktop is prehistoric & on Windows 7, and will NOT print. I refuse to print 319 pages off, but the work printer will print double-sided, so that reduces it, but the operating system is so old I've got it on my desktop, but it still says password protected. Doing my nut in now!! Many thanks for all your help though. I was told the book was available to buy, and I've emailed them but no answer!

Ok let me work on this, Dave G sorted it and was correct in what he said, that is how my system is set up you can bypass passwords it don’t take a rocket scientist, however your operating system is a little old school, if you don’t want to print the book then it could be put on a CD to read.

It's not the OS, it's the plugin Firefox is using to read PDFs.

Ken, usually when FF fires up a plugin, it identifies it at the time its run.
